Psyllium is a bulk-forming laxative and is high in both fibre and mucilage; psyllium seeds contain 10–30% mucilage. The laxative properties of psyllium are due to the swelling of the husk when it comes in contact with water; this forms a gelatinous mass that keeps feces hydrated and soft, provided it is taken with sufficient water. Directions
Adults ≥ 19 years old: Take 3 capsules three times daily or as directed by your health-care practitioner. For each gram of psyllium, take with 30 ml of liquid (water, milk, fruit juice, or similar aqueous beverage). Drink immediately and maintain adequate fluid intake. If you are taking other medications, take this product 2 hours before or after them.
Duration of use: Effects observed 12–24 hours after the first dose; results may take 2–3 days. Avoid long-term use, and consult a health-care practitioner for use beyond 6 weeks.
Note: Also take 1 or 2 capsules of enteric-coated Acidophilus Ultra each day.
